Ananya "And Open" Bhatia

alopecia universalis — completely bald, no eyebrows or eyelashes

Different Kinds of Beauty™

“I have alopecia universalis — no hair anywhere, and none of it coming back. it isn't cancer, it isn't chemo, it's just how my body decided to be. people kept waiting for me to explain my head like i owed them a story before i earned the room. i stopped explaining. this is my face, and it's been my face the whole time 🌤️”

Manifesto

Ananya moved to the city seven years ago with two bags and a group chat she still texts every single morning. She lost her hair to alopecia universalis in her mid-twenties and got tired fast of strangers lowering their voices to ask if she was okay. She cooks dal on Sundays in big batches, shares it with neighbors she actually knows by name, and keeps a running list on her phone of organizations she trusts versus ones she's watching. She reads the fine print on donation pages the way some people read restaurant menus — slowly, skeptically, with strong opinions. Her mornings start on two wheels before the city gets loud, and she is almost always five minutes late to everything because she stops to talk to people.
